A window into Boston’s social media community
Boston’s Social Media Breakfast series marched on this past Monday at the Mooo Restaurant at the XV Beacon hotel when some 45-50 members of the city’s passionate social media community braved the frigid temperatures and came together for a morning of good food and great conversation.
Washington, D.C.-based buzzman Geoff Livingston was the featured presenter at Social Media Breakfast 4, and he used the analogy of Red Sox Nation to lead a thoughtful discussion about the differences between a community, an audience, and stakeholders.

Thanks again to Kyle Flaherty, Lisa Azizian, and the Horn Group for sponsoring Social Media Breakfast 4.
Watch this space for the announcement of SMB5, likely to take place in late January or early February.

December 15th, 2007 — SMB Boston, Upcoming breakfasts
Weatherwise, things are looking dicey in these parts for Sunday, but current forecasts have the storm moving out in the evening.
That means the breakfast is still on. See you Monday.

December 11th, 2007 — Recaps, SMB New York City
Today’s inaugural Social Media Breakfast in New York (SMBNYC) brought together 30 social media professionals for easily the best diner breakfast New York has to offer.
The assembled group mingled over eggs, granola and "McDaddy’s" while Eric Krangel, who goes by the avatar Eric Reuters in Second Life, talked about his experiences as a virtual world reporter.
Overall, it was a chance to meet many new people in my social media community, and also to meet friends face-to-face I had only known from Twitter. The best part is, I have a lot of new blogs to start following!
Converseon posted pictures and B.L. Ochman has a nice recap.
Thanks to Text 100 and Converseon for sponsoring the event.

December 5th, 2007 — SMB New York City, Upcoming breakfasts
I attended the third social media breakfast in Boston earlier this Fall. It was pretty cool connecting face-to-face with people I had only met online through my social networks, and hearing how other social media professionals are approaching these new platforms for communications and community building.
It was there that I met Bryan Person, who really understands the myriad ways social media is changing our work. I must have made some off-hand comment about how we could use one of these in New York. I didn’t mean that I wanted to organize it, per se, just that "it would be cool if SOMEONE did."
A few weeks later, I was exchanging emails with Paull Young from social media agency Converseon, who also thought it was a great idea, and "it would be cool if SOMEONE organized one in NYC."
That "someone" turned out to be us.
So if you’re interested in learning more about social media and connecting with other New Yorkers working in this space, come on down and join us next Tuesday, December 12 at 8:00 AM at Big Daddy’s Diner near Union Square for some coffee, eggs and conversation. You must be registered to attend.
Our special guest will be Reuters technology reporter Eric Krangel (avatar Eric Reuters), whose current beat includes the virtual world of Second Life.
The breakfast is FREE, courtesy of Text 100 and Converseon.
Since seating is tight, participation is limited to the first 30 registrants.
You can reserve your seat and find more details here.
We hope you’ll join us!

Geoff’s also a regular Twitterer and author of the new book Now is Gone: A Primer on New Media for Executives and Entrepreneurs.

Big thanks to Kyle Flaherty, Lisa Azizian, and everyone at the Horn Group for their generous sponsorship of the breakfast.
