SMB Twin Cities Wrapup

The inaugural SMB in Minneapolis/St. Paul was a good time and a great success. While we were hoping to have about 10-12 people SMB Groupparticipate, we had an outstanding first group of 16 meet in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday. Hosted at Keys CafĂ© in the historic Foshay Tower, talk of social media over coffee and eggs was long overdue - Bryan Person really had a great idea in these SMB’s!

This first meetup really was left fairly loosely structured, and most appreciated just having time to really meet in person the people we’ve been interacting with for months online. Common topics that made it around the table were related to Twitter, mobile access to new media, and the common challenges of social media adoption in the Midwest.

Also, we were treated to a demo of the new Shareable Feed Reader Cullect.com by Garrick VanBuren and Albert Maruggi did an interview on Utterz with me. Overall, it was a great time, and something the crew here in the Twin Cities area has been hoping to do for some time. We’ve got a lot of talented people here looking to help organizations leverage the opportunities that social media brings to building and connecting with a community.

SMB Twin CitiesBelow is a list of attendees with links to their Twitter profiles (sorry if I missed anyone - not everyone left a link!):

We’re looking forward to future SMB’s and are looking for suggestions, ideas, and other feedback. If you would like more structure, presentations, demos, breakouts, etc… just leave a comment or email Rick Mahn at “rickmahn [at] gmail [dot] com”.

Rick - tooshay for arranging this at the Foshay. Good group, it reminds me of the part in Jaws when they first see the shark while in the boat and the Sheriff back pedals and says “we’re gonna need a bigger boat,” Well in the Social Media Breakfast Twin Cities case we’ll need a bigger table next time.

Kate Tierney rocks, anyone with 4 kids that can make it to an 8AM breakfast has got it together.

I think we should challenge the boston types to see who can come up with better breakfasts. The reason I say this is because with the Vikings, Wolves, and Twins we have little to rival BeanTown.

All in good fun my chowder loving friends.

Rick, I wrote up some comments on my blog at http://urltea.com/2ptb; thanks for setting this up, it was great. The only thought I had was to move people around some more or get a different table layout to allow people to talk with everyone over the course of the breakfast.

Hey Rick, thanks for pulling this together. I’m excited to see where it goes. I setup a wiki page at http://mspsmb.jottit.com for us to play around with. Promote at will. ;)

Thanks for organizing, Rick. Looking forward to the next gathering. I’d agree with Kevin on set up - more interaction with others. Maybe even a formal agenda? It’s always nice to network, but I’d like to learn from some of the great minds at these events.

Greg, Kevin, Arik
Thanks for the feedback - that is exactly what I was curious about. We’ll add that to the plan for the next one. I’ll have some more questions in a week or two - to see if we’re on the same page before the next one!

Regards,
Rick
