SMB Montreal # 3 – Social Media Monitoring and What to Know BEFORE implementing a Social Media Strategy

The Social Media Breakfast Montreal has had two successful events thus far, and we hope to continue the trend with Event # 3 being held Wednesday June 9th, 9-11am, at La Bistrote – located at 1510 Notre Dame West, in Griffintown – Montreal.Bistrote LogoEvent tickets can be bought here (5$ includes breakfast) – www.smbmontreal03.eventbrite.com.

Heelatch (event organizer) are happy to welcome Jeff Scott and Mark Goren as speakers/presenters for the event (event topic and bios found below).

We are also happy to be back at La Bistrote with Chef/Owner Dana Elsliger who once again will prepare breakfast and host the event. The venue is cozy, so we’ve limited capacity to 45 attendees in order to keep things (more) comfortable.

Here are a couple of short intros/write ups describing the speakers and some insight on what to expect from their presentations. As always, we encourage participation from all guests, so please come ready with questions and don’t by shy to share to your expertise on the topics being discussed when called upon.

MARK GOREN, Transmission Content + Creative

Mark is a social media strategist specializing in social media monitoring. He helps clients in different sectors, plus advertising and P.R. agencies in Canada and the U.S, get up to speed on social media tools, technologies and tactics, while preparing them to strategically add social media initiatives to their own service offering. Strategic listening to social media conversation is his area of specialty, having developed unique processes to help clients define and design their monitoring programs.

Mark leads workshops and has presented at several different social media and Internet conferences in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and Washington. SocialMediaMonitoring.ca, an online initiative of his, delivers an easy-to-read explanation of the importance of listening and its Social Media Monitoring Tool Directory (#smmtd) has often been cited for being one of the most comprehensive lists of monitoring services on the web.

Previously, Mark spent over a decade working as a strategic-minded creative at advertising agencies in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. You can follow Mark on Twitter using both @markgoren OR @all4monitoring.

Social Media Monitoring Isn’t Just For Monitoring Social Media, It’s Also For…

With the emergence of social media and online networking platforms comes a real-time, worldwide library of information just waiting to be searched, sorted, aggregated and analyzed. So whether you’re actively engaged with using social media or not, at minimum, you should be listening to what’s being said about your organization and your products to help shape your communications strategies for both offline and online participation.

At SMB Montreal 3, we’ll discuss the importance of monitoring, the process for collecting relevant information and the possibilities that exist for using this information.

He himself placed well in both.

What small businesses need to know about social media

Stories about social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook appear in the media daily, but how can you leverage these platforms for your small business? Can using social media positively affect your bottom line? What do you need to consider before you develop and implement a social media strategy?

At SMB #3, Jeff Scott will present an overview of how several social media platforms are being used by small businesses and outline what you need to consider before you incorporate them into yours.

Jeff can be reached on Twitter at @jeffscott, by email at jeffreypscott@gmail.com and on his mobile at 514-625-6818.

Join us at SMB#3 by registering for the event here: www.smbmontreal03.eventbrite.com taking place Wednesday June 9th, 2010, 9-11am, at La Bistrote – 1510 Notre Dame St. West, Montreal.
