Last week, Bellingham SMB welcomed Tac Anderson as guest speaker of the second “Social Media Breakfast at Night” series at Glow Nightclub in downtown Bellingham. Tac is the founder of several blogs, such as IgniteBoise, New Comm Biz, and TechBoise, as well as the Digital Consulting Director at PR giant Waggener Edstrom.

Tac’s background in blogging and social media is extensive and successful. His tech-centric blogs in the Boise area were among the first of their kind and helped to bring together a vibrant, yet previously hidden underground community.

Social media, he said, has allowed “nerds” to communicate socially where they couldn’t before, thus fostering the potential for new relationships and subsequent innovation. Groups of otherwise socially reserved or distant people have come together in the virtual world to share ideas and create paradigm-shifting start-up companies that have changed the face of modern business. Tac’s blogs were so popular that he eventually found himself to be the center of the online techie community, thus inspiring him to share his experience with other like-minded innovators across the online landscape.

The event was well-attended, with new faces to be seen throughout the eager crowd. The SMB phenomenon has definitely taken root among Bellingham’s social media-philes, and there appears to be no limit to its growth potential.
