#BTVSMB – February 1, 2010

Last week we had another Burlington Social Media Breakfast. Adrian Ho from Zeus Jones spoke to a crowd of 175 people from large and small companies, big agencies and one man shops. Adrian is a big thinker and he challenged us to re-look at the way we market, especially through social media. I find that a challenge with crowds like this is that there are a number of people who just want to “know what to do and what tools to use.” Others are trying to figure out if this would be good for their business. Adrian provided lots to think about and we had a lively Q+A and blog posts afterwards.

You can see Adrian Ho’s presentation here.

Seamus Walsh of Vazt.org filmed the presentation. You can see the video here.

One note, though, to you Breakfast organizers: We had a late, last minute cancellation on Saturday before the Monday event. Being in Burlington, we had almost no chance of replacing the speaker, despite some collaborative hail Mary passes. Lesson learned: prepare a back up! The event still went off well, but it was less than I had planned and that people expected.

A great morning at #btvsmb

The first Burlington Social Media breakfast was a huge success. Back on June 1, we sold out the venue. While there were some disappointed people who didn’t get in, the 200 who did experienced a great morning of social media with C.C. Chapman, Todd Defren and Mike Hayes (of Magic Hat Brewery). After the speaking part we had a breakout session, so rather than just listening and learning, we could test out some of the ideas in our heads. We worked with non-profit Grounds for Health to come up with social media ideas for their outreach. It was a good networking opportunity as well.

Rather than give more descriptions here, you can see for yourself what happened. Below are links to blog posts and videos (update: videos from two presentations have been added, but you may need to click through to the original post to see them). We’ve now created a social media club for Burlington and our next event is August 3 with PRSarahEvans among others.
