You already know about Uptown Uncorked, since we are the breakfast maestro each month, and DimDim, who handles the periodic live casting of the breakfasts (note: this breakfast will not be live cast). Let me tell you a bit about our venue:

Theme for the 10th Social Media Breakfast: Using Multi Media To Amp Up Your Social Media Efforts

The tenth Social Media Breakfast NH (hashtag #smbnh) will be all about topics related to Using Multi Media in Social Media. In this struggling economy and shifting paradigm we need to be working together to be more successful and better weather the storm. We should be pulling in all aspects of technology, new media, old media and social media to succeed. This meeting will help us lay the foundation for a richer, better education, tech and new media community in NH.

In addition to Leslie Poston (myself), who will be your host and MC for the morning, you will have three speakers giving three brief presentations on topics relating to the theme for the morning.

Speakers:

Opening Remarks by Leslie Poston (SMBNH founder, founder of Uptown Uncorked, co-founder of Film POP!, co-author Twitter for Dummies)

Welcome Remarks by Granite State Independent Living

Anthony Liang (UNH) and Brendan Pelletier (Plymouth State) will be giving us the student perspective on using audio multi media and podcasting in your social media efforts

Dan Freund, Producer at Kinney Hill and master mind behind Short Stream TV, will be showcasing how to use video effectively in a social media effort

Cappy Popp, co-founder of Thought Labs and author of Essential Facebook Development, will be talking about the metrics and methods of multi media in an overall campaign

This is going to be a great breakfast!

Social Media Breakfast History

On seeing growing demand in this area, I decided to fill the need with a new branch of the nationwide Social Media Breakfast in NH. It isn’t that we don’t love Boston, because we do, but our neighbor to the north is rich in technology and social media, and often overlooked when events are planned. I saw a need for networking opportunities that were easier to get to for the northern tech and social media crowd, and decided to step up and fill it. Because NH itself is a diverse and scattered state, the Social Media Breakfast there will be just a little bit different than the one in Cambridge/Boston. Our first meeting was in January 2009, and was a roaring success.

What is a Social Media Breakfast?

From the official description: The Social Media Breakfast was founded by Bryan Person in August 2007 as an event where social media experts and newbies alike come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new-media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend.

The breakfast series began in Boston and has now spread to more than a dozen cities throughout the United States and around the world.

How will the Social Media Breakfast in NH be different?

The main difference between Social Media Breakfast NH and other SMBs will be all-inclusiveness. I do not want only social media people and companies to attend, I also want technology types, programmers, coders, tech writers, tech companies and more to attend. As a state that is rich in technology but scattered in distance, I think the best networking and connection making effect will be achieved by combined our different cultures. You never know, as a social media type you might just meet the coder you’ve been looking for to create your dream project if we all come together to connect and to learn from each other!

TO SPONSOR THIS OR A FUTURE SMBNH CONTACT LESLIE POSTON via Twitter, Email or Phone.

You already know about Uptown Uncorked, since we are the breakfast maestro each month, and DimDim, who handles the periodic live casting of the breakfasts (note: this breakfast will not be live cast). Let me tell you a bit about our venue, The Portsmouth Tea Company, and our sponsor, Custom Scoop.

Our venue this month is The Portsmouth Tea Company. They will be providing the food and space for this event in their tea room. It should be a unique experience (and they have assured this coffee lover that they do have excellent coffee, but that once I try their tea I may never go back. We’ll see!). A little about the people behind the company:

Theme for the sixth Social Media Breakfast: Reaching Beyond Cultural Divides

The seventh Social Media Breakfast NH (hashtag #smbnh) will be all about topics related to Reaching Beyond Cultural Divides. We plan to talk about social media as it relates to minorites of all types and the disenfranchised, gender roles and other often overlooked or under tapped demographics. In this struggling economy and shifting paradigm we need to be working together to be more successful and better weather the storm. We should be pulling in all aspects of technology, new media, old media and social media to succeed. This meeting will help us lay the foundation for a richer, better education, tech and new media community in NH.

In addition to myself, who will be your host and MC for the morning, you will have three speakers giving three brief presentations on topics relating to the theme for the morning.

Speakers:

• Opening Remarks by Leslie Poston, Uptown Uncorked

• Welcome Remarks by Marshall from Portsmouth Tea

• Sponsor remarks by Custom Scoop

• Ari Herzog, running for City Council, Newburyport, on “Dealing with Differing Religions Online”

The Manchester City Library has been a cultural treasure to Manchester and New Hampshire since 1854. In his inaugural address that year, Mayor elect Frederick Smyth proposed the establishment of a free public library for all of Manchester’s citizens. During the previous decade, the Manchester Athenaeum had been used and enjoyed by its members. The Manchester Athenaeum collection was officially transferred to the city on September 6, 1854, bringing to life Mayor Smyth’s dream of a Manchester City Library. (read more history here) The Manchester City Library isn’t stuck in its past, however. It has a thriving technological component, highlighting social media through its blog, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr photos, and more.

Social Media Breakfast History

On seeing growing demand in this area, I decided to fill the need with a

As you all know I am on a great push to get hyper-local this year in addition to my national business (You can read more about that over here). As part of that I’ve been doing small, intimate local classes (like this one on kid safety online) and organizing and sponsoring local events designed to foster knowledge and connection. One of these has been starting and organizing Social Media Breakfast NH.

As we enter our third meeting, averaging 50 – 80 people each time (and growing) no matter what the weather holds, it became time to get some behind the scenes help. Kevin Micalizzi and Matt Turner have been instrumental in helping at each breakfast without being asked (Kevin has been doing the live-casting everyone loves so much through DimDim, and Matt has been excellent on concierge duty the day of each event). It only made sense then to bring on Kevin and Matt officially.

From now on, while I will still be the main contact, you can also submit topic, speaker, sponsor and venue ideas to Kevin Micalizzi as well as to myself. He will also be another source for answers to your questions. Matt Turner is so fantastic at on-site duties and connecting people during the event that he’ll be instrumental in that area, so the day of the event you can see either myself or Matt for whatever concierge-type help you may need.

You probably already follow me on Twitter (geechee_girl). Be sure to follow Kevin (kevinmic) and Matt (onmatt) also. Hashtag for all Social Media Breakfast NH events continues to be #SMBNH.

We also have our next breakfast coming up this Friday, April 17th. From the official EventBrite Sign Up:

Special thank you to our event sponsor, University of New Hampshire (UNH). Thanks to their generosity we are able to offer
this breakfast at no cost to you.

Location: UNH Campus (street address, room and parking information to be added here shortly)

Theme for the third Social Media
Breakfast: Education 2.0 (how social media tools can help educators)

The third
Social Media Breakfast NH (hashtag #smbnh) will be all about topics
related to Education 2.0. In this struggling economy and shifting
paradigm we need to be working together to be more successful and
better weather the storm. We should be pulling in all aspects of
technology, new media, old media and social media to succeed. This
meeting will help us lay the foundation for a richer, better education,
tech and new media community in NH.

Usually, In addition to myself,
who will be your host and MC for the morning, you will have three
speakers giving three brief presentations on topics relating to the
theme for the morning. However, we are switching it up a bit this month. BEcause the focus is education, I thought, “Why not educate?”. To that end we will have two speakers, then any educators in attendance will get the floor to put us, the social media gurus in attendance, on the spot and let us answer their questions. A kind of reverse breakfast, if you will.

Speakers:

Speakers:

• Opening Remarks by Evangelos Simos, Professor at UNH

• Kelley Muir, Partner of Sunder Media and Director of Float Left Labs, has worked in the interactive and new media realm, in NH for the past 5 years. Kelley was part of the first graduating class of New Media from the
University of Maine and has a focus on usability, user experience, and design. Kelley’s favorite word is intuitive. she will be discussing “Interns 2.0: A reflective look at the role of Interns, their treatment in our industry
and country, As well as how the economy has changed the internship process for better and worse.”

• Hans Mundahl has taught since 1995 when he first stepped to the front of a classroom as a Fullbright Exchange Teacher in the former East Germany. Since then he has been creating stimulating educational experiences for students that combine cutting edge tools with durable skills. Hans is the Director of Experiential Learning and Technology Coordinator at the New Hampton School. He will be presenting on using live streaming and Mogulus in the classroom.

• Reverse speaker slot: educators and students in the room will get a chance to pick the brains of the social media crowd for how to use social media tools in and out of the classroom

TO SPONSOR THIS OR A FUTURE SMBNH CONTACT LESLIE POSTON via Twitter, Email or Phone or purchase a sponsor ticket above.

Theme for the second Social Media Breakfast: Government 2.0 (how utilities, organizations for the environment, and more work with and from municipalities and other entities using social media to achieve goals)

The second Social Media Breakfast NH (hashtag #smbnh) will be all about topics related to Government 2.0.

‘Electric Tweets‘ – Why @psnh followers increased 1,700% in one week Public Service of New Hampshire’s Martin Murray will discuss the electric utility’s use of Twitter and other social media.

Boston Police Department is sending John Daley to discuss their web outreach efforts via Twitter and other media.

Now or Never Media’s Bill Rogers and his partners in clean air initiatives will discuss how they use social media to get the word out and reach out to municipalities for change.

Social Media Breakfast NH Back Story

Over the last few weeks I’ve been quietly planning and plotting a new branch of the nationwide Social Media Breakfast in NH.

How will the Social Media Breakfast in NH be different?

The main difference between Social Media Breakfast NH and other SMBs will be all-inclusiveness. I do not want only social media people and companies to attend, I also want technology types, programmers, coders, tech writers, tech companies and more to attend. As a state that is rich in technology but scattered in distance, I think the best networking and connection making effect will be achieved by combining our different cultures. You never know, as a social media type you might just meet the coder you’ve been looking for to create your dream project if we all come together to connect and to learn from each other!

Theme for the first Social Media Breakfast: BUILDING BRIDGES

The first Social Media Breakfast NH (hashtag #smbnh) will be on February 20th at 8AM at SNHU campus in Manchester, NH and will be all about Building Bridges. In this struggling economy and shifting paradigm we need to be working together to be more successful and better weather the storm. We should be pulling in all aspects of technology, new media, old media and social media to succeed. This meeting will help us lay the foundation for a richer, better education, tech and new media community in NH. To that end we are happy to announce our sponsor for the venue and AV equipment from the field of education: Southern New Hampshire University. Our sponsor for the breakfast goodies and coffee is DimDim, another company that specializes in connections by offering a fantastic web conferencing solution compatible with PC, Mac and Linux. A huge, huge Thank You to both! Our speakers will include Jen Zingsheim, Vice President, Products and Services for Custom Scoop, who will be discussing building bridges between old media and new media, and more. Go to the EventBrite page for more details and ticket reservations.

Let’s make the new SMBNH crackle with energy and success! See you there!

A recap will be posted here after the event. Be sure to check the FaceBook Group for details on how to watch the LiveCast closer to the date.
