Starting an SMB

The vision

Social Media Breakfasts bring together people who are interested in teaching, sharing, and learning about trends, case studies, and best practices in social media. This educational focus is critical for moving the social media industry forward.

Breakfast ingredients

To launch and maintain a Social Media Breakfast series in your city, you will need:

  1. An organizing team – I recommend at least two people!
  2. A venue
  3. A sponsor – recommended, for keeping event free or at low cost for participants
  4. Speaker/panel/program around a social media topic
  5. Sites/tools/social networks for getting the word out – Twitter, e-mail list, blogs, etc.
  6. Tools/applications for managing registrations – most SMB groups use Eventbrite

City-by-city organizing

Social Media Breakfasts require the energy, wisdom, and get-stuff-done mentality of local organizers. As SMB founder, I can offer plenty of encouragement and overarching SMB insight along the way, but the planning and organization ultimately rests in the hands of the local team members who know their cities best.
